Call for proposals for submitted symposia
A limited number of submitted symposia are included in the scientific programme of the 19th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Paris, 5-9 July 2009 (IAGG Paris 2009).
The Scientific Committee invites delegates to submit proposals for symposia to be presented at the congress. The deadline for submission is 30 June 2008. Decisions about acceptance will be notified in August 2008.
The congress programme is primarily organised around four main themes:
When you submit your proposal, you are applying to one of these four themes.
The symposia must address scientific issues around a coherent theme of interest to a broad audience.
Each symposium should have three to four speakers for a total of 60 to 90 mn. It is the responsibility of the organisers to select the speakers and identify financial support. All speakers are required to register and pay the registration fee.
Please note that it is imperative to receive the acceptance of every speaker in the session prior to submission. Each proposed participant is committed to participate to the congress in case of acceptance of the proposal.
Symposia involving speakers from more than one country will be particularly welcome. Proposed speakers for submitted symposia may come from different countries or from the same country, or same organisation.
In order to submit a proposal for symposia for the congress, you will have to log in here. Once you log in as a first time user, you will be automatically assigned an access code. Returning users may log into the system using their assigned access code. This code will allow the main organiser to view the submitted proposal, but not to modify it. Should modifications be necessary, the main organiser should contact the congress secretariat.

Instructions for the submission of a symposium proposal
To facilitate the review process, please pay careful attention and complete all application fields. Incomplete applications cannot be processed. When submitting your proposal, please select one of the four main themes that is most descriptive of the submission's content. The information will be used in assigning reviewers and in composing the final programme.
Proposals, only in English, must be submitted only online between 15 November 2007 - 30 June 2008. Proposals must be submitted on or before the closing date. Please note that late submissions will not be considered.
The proposal should include the following information:
Submission for participation on symposia (as speaker or organiser) is limited to two per person. Should an individual participate in more than one session, the Scientific Committee does not guarantee that those presentations will be scheduled in non-conflicting time periods. It is assumed that the first author will be the presenter.
By submitting a proposal at IAGG Paris 2009, authors are assumed to give consent and authorize the organisers to publish or submit for the publication the abstract and paper, and to include them in any congress publications.
The Scientific Committee will review all proposals submitted on time, within the specified format. The organisers reserve the right to reject any proposals for failure to comply with submission guidelines above mentioned, linked from this page, or communicated via the organisers.
Submitted symposia will be selected based on the scientific interest of the topics, the expected (near) future scientific breakthroughs and/or highlights and the achievements of the speakers in the field.
Proposals may be accepted as they stand. In some cases, the Scientific Committee may accept a proposal provided that the organisers accept modifications necessary to improve the proposal and/or to make it coherent with other selected symposia.
Notification of acceptance
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their submission by e-mail no later than August 2008. Further details will be sent end September 2008, giving the time, session and place of accepted presentations. The proposals will be definitely accepted once the organisers have replied and confirmed their participation.
If e-mail notification is not received by the end of August 2008, please contact the organising secretariat at programme@gerontologyparis2009.com
For administrative purposes, once the different partners have agreed on a proposal, the proposed chair will act as the main organiser. All communication with the congress secretariat will be done exclusively by the main organiser.
Speakers of accepted symposia will be requested to prepare and submit an abstract for publication in the abstract book of the congress - supplement of the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging (JNHA) which will be distributed to all participants at the congress. After the congress, the accepted papers will be published in the online proceedings on the congress website. Further information and guidelines will follow closer to the congress.
Please note that submitting a proposal for presentation at the 19th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics does not constitute registration for the congress. Participants attending the congress are required to register and pay the registration fee. This includes all accepted presenting authors, co-authors and session chairs.
All authors accepted for presentation must register for the congress before the end of October 2008 in order to confirm their presentation. Failure to do this could result in losing your presentation slot.
Online registration will be open on the congress website at www.gerontologyparis2009.com in January 2008. Accommodation and transportation are the responsibility of the participant.
If you want to withdraw a submitted proposal please contact us at programme@gerontologyparis2009.com
